What is the duration of the Isla del Caño tour?

The tour typically begins at 6:45 AM with a return around 2:00 to 3:00 PM, depending on ocean conditions.

Is prior diving experience required?

This tour is designed for those with scuba diving certification. However, we also offer a Discover Scuba Diving experience for those who want to try scuba diving for the first time.

What equipment is provided?

All basic necessary diving equipment is included in the price of the trip. Not included in the price is a dive computer, which can be rented from a dive center for an additional fee. Of course, you can bring personal items with you, such as a waterproof camera or a towel. Remember, however, that space on the boat is limited and all items may get wet due to weather conditions.

Are there restrictions for participants?

Participants must be at least 10 years old. There’s no upper age limit, but a moderate fitness level is recommended to ensure a comfortable experience. The tour is not suitable for pregnant women.

What can I expect to see during the dives?

Isla del Caño is renowned for its rich marine biodiversity. Divers often encounter sea turtles, reef sharks, manta rays, and a variety of tropical fish amidst vibrant coral formations. Remember, however, that this is a natural environment and not a zoo theme park. Therefore, weather and sea conditions can be very variable. This also applies to visibility underwater as well as animals that you may encounter.

How do I get to Uvita from San José?

To get to Uvita from San José, you have a few transportation options:

  1. By Car:
    The drive from San José to Uvita takes around 3 to 4 hours. You’ll take Route 27 to the town of Atenas, and then continue along Route 34 (Costanera Sur) towards the Osa Peninsula and Uvita.

  2. By Shuttle Service:
    Private or shared shuttles are available, and they offer a comfortable and stress-free ride. This option typically takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic.

  3. By Public Bus:
    Buses from San José to Uvita leave from the Tracopa Bus Station. The journey takes around 3.5 to 4.5 hours, and buses run multiple times a day. This is the most affordable option.

  4. By Domestic Flight:
    You can take a short flight from San José to Palmar Sur (near Uvita). From Palmar Sur, you can arrange for a taxi or shuttle to take you to Uvita, which is about 30 minutes away.

No matter which option you choose, the journey to Uvita will reward you with beautiful coastal views and the serenity of the southern Pacific coast.
