Ever wondered what it feels like to stand on the top of an entire country? Trekking Cerro Chirripó, the highest mountain in Costa Rica at 3,820 meters, is a challenge, a privilege, and honestly — a bit of a leg workout you’ll never forget.
This isn’t just another hike. It’s a two-day deep dive into raw nature, from tropical cloud forests to alpine tundra. And if the weather’s kind, you might just catch the sunrise lighting up both the Pacific and the Caribbean at the same time. Yes — it’s real. And yes, it’s worth every uphill step.
Cerro Chirripó is the highest mountain in Costa Rica and one of the best hikes in Central America. Hiking it challenges you physically, but as you ascend to the summit through different ecosystems, from tropical forest to alpine tundra, you’ll appreciate a unique view of biological diversity in its natural habitat throughout the country.
At 3,820 meters, it’ll take your breath away at the top (and on clear mornings, you can see both the Pacific and Caribbean sides of the country). But this is more than a hike—it is an excursion that tempers one’s appreciation for nature with the notable challenge and subsequent gratitude for those who find themselves pushing their personal physical capabilities and timetables. This is not just a hike; this is a worthwhile excursion for the memory of a lifetime.

Hiking up to Cerro Chirripó isn’t as simple as lacing up a good pair of hiking shoes. It requires foresight, timely permit reservations, and an understanding of local logistics that may be confusing for outsiders. We do it all—from limited capacity reservations for parks to housing and meals to well-versed local guides who know the trails like the back of their hand.
Our goal is to make your journey as smooth and rewarding as possible, so you can focus on the experience — not the paperwork. With years of on-the-ground expertise and a personalized approach to every booking, we ensure your Chirripó adventure is well-organized, safe, and truly unforgettable.
Note: Trekking to Cerro Chirripó is a physically demanding experience that requires excellent fitness, endurance, and the ability to cope with unpredictable mountain weather. This is not a casual hike — the trail involves steep elevation gains, long walking days, and exposure to cold temperatures at high altitudes. There are no vehicles, no evacuation routes, and no alternative transport available on the trail. Additionally, access to Chirripó National Park is strictly regulated. Due to limited availability, we strongly recommend planning your trip at least 6 months in advance to secure your spot and ensure proper logistics.
The price is for a private tour up to 4 people.

Yes — and they’re limited. Entry permits are personal, non-transferable, and include lodging and meal reservations. We take care of the entire booking process for you, so you don’t have to battle the SINAC system yourself.
As early as possible. Ideally 6 months in advance, especially if you’re aiming for dry season dates (Dec–April). Spots fill up quickly due to strict daily limits in the park.
Technically yes, but we don’t recommend it. A guide brings safety, local knowledge, and the kind of insight that turns a tough hike into a meaningful experience. Plus, you’re supporting local professionals who know the mountain like the back of their hand.
No. The entire route must be done on foot. There are no rescue vehicles, no horses, and no shortcuts. That’s why fitness, good gear, and preparation are essential.
