Is there anything better than beach resorts in Costa Rica? Let’s be honest—when you picture Costa Rica, it’s palm trees and turquoise water (and a hammock) or a mischievous monkey stealing your banana—and you’re not wrong. But where should you stay to ensure this is an experience you’ll never forget?
We found the best beach resorts in Costa Rica that cater to more than just “great” but rather, “why haven’t I been here all along?” Whether you’re traveling with kids, need a honeymoon stopover, or just want to lay horizontal all day listening to the sound of the waves crashing—something’s on this list for you.
Top Beach Resorts in Costa Rica: Where to Stay for Good Vibes
Accommodation in Costa Rica is not hard to come by, but beach resorts differ in quality. Some are nestled deep in the jungle, some are walkable to the sand, and some are a hybrid of both. After years of assessing where my clients and I would stay (and hotel mistakes along the way), here are my recommendations of those that meet—and exceed—expectations.

Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo (Guanacaste)
The classic. This is where luxury meets “I might accidentally run into a celebrity at breakfast.” Think: ocean views, golf courses, spa treatments, and staff who somehow know your name after one day. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Also yes.
Tulemar Resort (Manuel Antonio)
Tucked into the jungle with views over the Pacific, Tulemar offers a blend of private villas and bungalows where you’re just as likely to see a sloth outside your window as a sunset over the ocean. Plus, it’s within walking distance to the beach and town — big win.
Top Beach Resorts in Santa Teresa – Nantipa
This one’s for the surf-y, barefoot luxury crowd. Nantipa nails that sweet spot between laid-back and high-end. Beachfront villas, local design, and hammocks in all the right places. It feels exclusive without being snobby.

Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort (Manuel Antonio)
Yes, Manuel Antonio again — because it’s that good. Arenas del Mar is one of the only truly beachfront resorts in the area and manages to balance sustainability, style, and a solid cocktail menu. Bonus: sloths on site.
Banana Azul (Puerto Viejo, Caribbean Coast)
If you want to escape the tourist crowds and vibe out Caribbean-style, this is your spot. Banana Azul has a more rustic, intimate feel, but the beach is right there, the food is fantastic, and the staff treats you like family. Perfect for chill travelers and digital nomads alike.
Hotel Punta Islita (Nicoya Peninsula)
Remote, scenic, and packed with charm. This boutique resort is perched on a hill above a quiet beach and offers horseback riding, art workshops, and all the space you need to breathe. Great for couples and romantic getaways.
